UEFA opens disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool and Roma

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool and Roma following their Champions League semi-final first leg at Anfield.
Liverpool have been charged with setting off fireworks and throwing objects while both clubs have been charged for crowd disturbances based on incidents that took place outside the stadium.
The Merseyside club raised concerns over police security ahead of the second leg in Rome. This was due to a Liverpool fan, Sean Cox, being left in a critical condition following an incident outside Anfield.
Two Italian men were later charged and remanded in custody.
Ahead of the second leg, Merseyside Police confirmed to Sky Sports Newsthey had not received any reports of disturbances between Liverpool and Roma fans in the Italian capital in the lead up to kick-off.
Jurgen Klopp's side face Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League on Saturday in Kyiv after beating Roma 7-6 on aggregate.
The case will be dealt with by UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary body on May 31.

Granit Xhaka's place in Switzerland's World Cup squad is in doubt after the Arsenal midfielder picked up an injury in training. The Swiss FA confirmed Xhaka had to stop training on Thursday after injuring his knee in a duel. He was not sent to hospital and was instead treated and examined by the physio at the team hotel. A statement on the Swiss FA website said Xhaka reported feeling pain on the outside of his left knee and will be sent for an MRI scan before any further update on the injury is given but they have told Sky Sports: "It is too early to say if he will miss the tournament in Russia". Xhaka is part of coach Vladimir Petkovic's 26-man preliminary squad which also includes Stoke midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri and Arsenal target Stephan Lichtsteiner. Switzerland play Spain in a warm-up match on June 3. They begin the World Cup against Brazil on June 17, before facing Serbia and Costa Rica in group E. via Sky Sports
