Transfer Talk podcast: Could Neymar and Philippe Coutinho be swapped?

Image
Barcelona would "seize upon" a Neymar and Philippe Coutinho swap, if the Paris Saint-Germain forward became available, Graham Hunter has told the Transfer Talk podcast. Neymar spent four years at Barcelona, scoring 105 goals in 186 appearances before he left the Nou Camp for Ligue 1 in 2017, becoming the world's most expensive player in the process. However, a return to Spain has been mooted almost since his arrival in France. European football journalist Hunter said PSG facing a Financial Fair Play investigation into spending patterns may open the door for Neymar to rejoin Barcelona and a player signed to help replace him, Coutinho, could move in the other direction. He told the  Transfer Talk  podcast: "They have great plans that if Neymar comes on the market, which is feasible because of his own personal preference and because PSG are still subject to stringent checks on whether they have or haven't breached Financial Fair Play. "Philippe Couti...

Unai Emery not thinking about Mesut Ozil leaving Arsenal

Image
Unai Emery says he has not given thought to the possibility of Mesut Ozil leaving Arsenal and revealed the midfielder could make a return to the side against Chelsea. Ozil has been left out of the team on a number of occasions this season, with Emery blaming a mixture of minor injuries and poor performances from the Germany international. The Gunners have struggled in his absence, winning just two of their last six Premier League matches and dropping six points behind Saturday's opponent, Chelsea, in fourth. Ozil was not in the squad for Arsenal's 1-0 defeat to West Ham last weekend, but Emery confirmed that the 30-year-old has trained consistently since and is in contention to be selected for the match at the Emirates on Saturday. "He has injuries, where sometimes he is okay, sometimes not okay," Emery said. "I want every player to be okay for every match and he is the same. "He didn't play the last game but this Saturday he could possibl...

Paul Pogba says Manchester United have rediscovered identity under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Image
Paul Pogba believes Manchester United have rediscovered their identity under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian, who was installed as caretaker boss following the departure of Jose Mourinho, has made the most successful start of any manager in the club's history with six wins from his opening six games. His arrival has also revitalised Pogba, who was an unused substitute in Mourinho's final game in charge against Liverpool, with the France midfielder scoring four times and adding five assists in his five matches under Solskjaer. "The way we are playing we have more possession of the ball. We know more where to attack and where to go. We have more of a pattern of play and more of a structure," Pogba told  Sky Sports News . "That makes it easier for everyone. So I would not say it is only myself. Yes, I have scored a few goals and had a few assists but it is all the team [that deserves credit]." United's latest win, against Spurs last Sunda...

Jose Mourinho not ready to quit management after Manchester United sack

Image
Jose Mourinho says still belongs top football after being sacked by Manchester United and that he is "too young" to retire. United have gone on to win six straight matches under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since Mourinho left in December. Mourinho, though, has no intentions of letting United be his final job. "I want to coach," he said on BeIN SPORTS. "I am too young, I am in football for a long, long time but I will be 56 in a couple of weeks and am really too young. "Where I am going to stay is where I belong, I belong to top football. I belong to top-level football and (that) is where I am going to be." Mourinho only signed a new two-year contract at United earlier in 2018, having guided the club to a second-place finish in the 2016-17 season. But his troubles began when he publicly criticised the United board for not backing him in the summer transfer market. He had wanted at least one new centre-back but he did not get on...

Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey signs Juventus pre-contract agreement

Image
Aaron Ramsey has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Juventus from Arsenal in the summer, according to Sky in Italy. The midfielder completed his Juventus medical over the weekend, and  Sky Sports News  understands the move will be made official in February. Ramsey has been free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement this month with clubs outside England permitted to sign Premier League players in the final six months of their contracts. Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the 28-year-old but Juventus have remained his first choice, according to  Sky  sources. Sky Sports News  exclusively revealed in October that Ramsey would be leaving the Emirates next summer, after he was told in person why he would not be offered a new deal. Ramsey joined Arsenal from Cardiff in 2008 and has scored 53 goals in his 253 Premier League games. He has made 31 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this season scoring four g...

Georginio Wijnaldum says it would be 'stupid' for Liverpool not to think they will win Premier League

Image
Georginio Wijnaldum has told Sky Sports that he thinks it would be "stupid" for Liverpool not to believe they will win the Premier League. With the Reds four points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table and having bounced back from their first loss of the season - to their title rivals - with a win at Brighton last weekend, Wijnaldum said "it would be a bad sign" if Liverpool did not believe in their ability to hold out. In the past decade, every team leading the pack at Christmas has gone on to lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the season, with the exception of Liverpool, who finished second in 2008/09 and 2013/14. Wijnaldum told  Sky Sports  the Reds are confident they will not add to that unwanted record this season, although he has urged his team-mates to focus on Saturday's clash with Crystal Palace. "I think it would be stupid if I said 'no' [I don't think we will win]," he said. "If you ask peop...

Chelsea agree Gonzalo Higuain loan deal with Juventus

Image
Chelsea have agreed a deal with Juventus to sign Gonzalo Higuain on loan until the end of the season, according to Sky in Italy. It is understood the loan could then be extended for another 12 months subject to certain conditions. Higuain has been on loan at AC Milan from Juventus since the start of the season, with an option to buy at the end of the season. Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri is understood to be keen on bringing Higuain to Stamford Bridge, despite concerns from the club's board. According to Sky in Italy, Chelsea's chief-executive Marina Granovskaia remains unconvinced Higuain is the answer to the club's striker problems. Higuain came off the bench for the final 20 minutes of AC Milan's 1-0 Super Cup defeat to Juventus in Saudi Arabia. Over the weekend Gattuso appeared to confirm Higuain was keen to leave the San Siro, saying "when a player makes up his mind it becomes hard to convince them otherwise". However, he has since bac...

Marcus Rashford in form of his career ahead of 150th Manchester United game

Image
Marcus Rashford is set to make his 150th appearance for Manchester Utd when they face Brighton on Saturday and he reaches the landmark in the best form of his young career. Rashford's winning goal against Tottenham on Sunday was the 10th time he had either scored or assisted in the Premier League since the start of December. The glut of goal involvements was sparked by his two assists in United's 2-2 draw with Southampton. Since then, he has contributed one every 76 minutes across nine appearances, a far superior rate to his average in the previous year. Virgil van Dijk's stats in first 50 Liverpool games

Image
Virgil van Dijk marked his 50th Liverpool appearance with a clean sheet on the weekend - we break down his impressive stats since joining last January. Saturday's 1-0 win at Brighton was Liverpool's 18th Premier League victory of the season, and ensured the leaders maintained their four-point gap over Manchester City by the end of the weekend. The gritty display at the Amex Stadium came thanks to a Mohamed Salah penalty, while Liverpool stifled Brighton down the other end with the hosts failing to record a shot on target. Van Dijk was once more influential in ensuring Liverpool kept a 24th clean sheet in what was his 50th game for the club since he joined from Southampton for £75m 12 months ago. A look at Liverpool's 50 matches with Van Dijk compared to the previous 50 highlight where the Dutchman's quality is taking effect and is proving why the club were willing to pay a world-record fee for a defender. Liverpool are maintaining their goalscoring rate, ...
